Valentine's Day

* These poems are a likeness, and more, of Kenn Nesbitt's Today I Got a Valentine...  (I changed/customized a few things in my version.)  I hope Kenn is not too upset - "imitation is the highest form of flattery" (Brian Molko).

Check out Kenn's original version here!

Happy Valentine's Day Shelly!

Today I got a Valentine
From everyone but Shelly.
But that's alright...
I have always found her smelly.

She never trades her cookies.
She isn't good at catch.
She doesn't like the way I sing.
Her socks don't often match.

She doesn't run like I do,
And she'll have her hair in a mess.
She is something of a clutter bug,
Who thinks she always knows best.

She dots her "i"'s with little hearts.
She's always reading books.
Whenever I am around,
She gives me confusing looks.

But, oh my goodness, here comes Shelly,
And what is this I see?
It seems she has an extra special
Valentine for me.

It's big and red, and has the words
"I love you, let’s be well."

I have always said there is no one else,
I like as much as "Shell"!

And for Molly:

Today I got a Valentine
From everyone but Molly.
But that's alright...
She acts like a border collie.

She gets sick on all of her clothes,
And is a fuss to go to sleep.
She doesn't like the way I look.
She thinks I am a creep.

She screams at the tops of her lungs,
And she'll wiggle, dance, and squirm.
She doesn't carry a conversation,
It's unreal she came from my sperm!

I do all of her laundry.
It's quite a lot.
I have to wipe her nose at times,
When it is full of snot.

But, oh my goodness, here comes Molly,
And what is this I see?
It seems she has an extra special
Valentine for me.

It's big and red, and has the words
"I love you, let’s be jolly."

I have always said there is no one else,
I like as much as "Molly"!

Nature's Love/Heart

Shelly, Dr. Kathryn (like a chiropractor she isn't a REAL doctor... just a lowly optometrist) and I were out on a nature walk this past weekend and nature was indicating Valentine's Day is nearing....  We didn't even arrange the leaves in this fashion!  This is just what we saw.  A heart.

So we were out on our walk and I am pretty sure Shelly's dad has a dam beaver problem over at his one farm....  I searched about and couldn't find the dam dam or the dam shelter in which they live.  But they were making light dam-work out of the beach trees in the area.  Shelly and Kathryn gave it a go as well.
Not a very flattering picture of either lady, so I promise to get a better dam shot at another event.

There were widdled pieces knocked out of the dam trees as if a razor sharp chisel and a mallet had worked on them.  That is the gist of this area.  Beavers can really do a lot of dam damage!

It has been rather quiet around here.  Molly is actually sleeping beside me as I type this up.  She is over three months old and is about 10 pounds in weight.  Her newborn clothes scarcely fit her anymore and she is in bigger diapers.  I notice a big difference in how she looks actually - but just "size" things generally.   Her hair is getting a bit redder and longer.  Another big difference is her appetite.  She tends to be hungrier more often and ravenous.  There doesn't seem to be any ill effects from mid-January's date with the lancet; let's hope that is the end of it.

Today was sweater day = People were supposed to turn down their thermostats by a few degrees and be aware of energy consumption...  At school we had a sweater challenge and I busted out a cardigan from 1979 with a big Ontario Provincial Police Association emblem on it - borrowed from that great guy Beaser.  I had a matching hat too.  Sadly I didn't win any prize for the attire.  Molly seemed to like it though.

I remember posting a year ago in Rossland.  I posted a poem called AValentine For Ernest Mann by Naomi Shihab Nye...  It is a fantastic Valentine's Day poem, and since the day is drawing nearer, you should make sure you find your poem, "heart", or that special something, for that special someone.

Sleeping Beauties

Things around here are back to the "norm" I suppose.  Molly has bounced back and has returned to her fine form.  She continues to have a great appetite and is getting to be a better sleeper each night.  In Guelph this past weekend she slept at the Tremain's for over 7 hours!  But for now she is content to occupy my side of the bed after I get up and start the day.

So the three of us were in Guelph last week.  On Friday night we stayed over at the Tremain's.  Kites was also in town.  We had a great scoff and then it was down to the basement to play some Dance Revolution 3 on the XBOX Kinect.  It was lots of fun and great to see everyone.

On Saturday morning we headed down the road to Joel's house = We arrived at the most fantastic time; they were settling down to a pancake breakfast and we had empty stomachs!  It is always, always great to see the four of them and the only unfortunate part is we don't have any pictures on our camera of the visit....  Email me some pictures Joel.

I also missed out on some great video from a Sunday night ago - We had a big jam session out in Saltford.  John, and Shelly were on the vocals and guitar, Craig was also on the guitar and I was strumming the ukulele.  We sounded pretty good.

There have been a few visitors to the house.  Shelly's brother Andrew and his family were over.  Poor Andrew had a few of his teeth knocked out the other day...  A hockey accident.

Shelly's friend Sue and her two kids were over as well - No injuries to report from their world...  All is well with them.

Shelly has been enjoying and making the most of her time off.  I snuck up behind her and caught her doing what she is now doing best!  Baking:

Me, I am trying to continue to do what I do best:  Just Hanging!
